"Herd Immunity"?
Here is why the "herd immunity" argument as it relates to vaccines is complete garbage. Here's an example: This holiday season you're going over the river and through the woods to elderly granny's house you go. Immunocompromised uncle Jim will be there as well as cousin Betty with her newborn infant Sweet-Cheeks. Thinking you're doing the responsible thing, you get yourself the Pertussis vaccine to protect all of them from whooping cough.
Sometime between when you get the vaccine and the holiday, you pick up the pertussis bacteria because the vaccine doesn't prevent you from contracting it, but it instead can make you an asymptomatic carrier of it if you pick it up. Since you have NO symptoms of being sick, you don't know to quarantine yourself to avoid spreading the illness to others. You go to the holiday festivities as planned, with pertussis colonizing in your nose and throat, and you unwittingly give granny, uncle Jim and little Sweet-Cheeks Whooping Cough.
The "Herd Immunity" argument is a heaping pile of propaganda garbage perpetuated by a multi-BILLION dollar pharmaceutical company. If you had the illness naturally, you would have the symptoms of being sick and know to stay away from other humans. Sure you can argue that the symptoms are what's "dangerous" and that is what you're vaccinating against...but the point is it literally renders the "herd immunity - shield and protect the elderly, sick and babies" argument useless...
