The majority of dog owners don't realize that their dog's puppy vaccines provide cover for the rest of their dog's life and according to the WSAVA (World Small Animal Veterinary Association) say that we should be vaccinating our pets NO sooner than 3 years at least (not annually). If you opt to have a titer (blood test) this can indicate the level of your dog's immunity and whether a booster against any of the core viruses/diseases are required. There are many sources where you can find out more information. Canine Health Concern (CHC) have a website.
Jackie Collinson says, "We had our 2yr old golden retriever vaccinated with her routine booster on 8/12/16, this consisted of Novibac Lepto 2. She started to cry at 4 am Saturday 10/12/16 and we went back to the vets that morning and she was given pain relief. By Monday 12/12/16 she was admitted to the hospital with what looked like severe bruising across her back and shoulders, particularly her left side, where the discoloration continued down under her armpit. She is also struggling to weight bare on her left front leg. Today there is the concern of necrosis and potential surgery and skin grafts although euthanasia has been brought up too. The vet has submitted a reaction to the manufacturer and the VMD.Update we are waiting on full post mortem results but have seen the similar posts today. At the moment we are still waiting for the histology and the interim report suggests that a severe localized reaction is plausible."
Lepto 4 covers only 4 strains when there are in fact about 240 strains of Lepto so who's to say if your dog will contract lepto then it will pick up one of the 4 strains 'covered' by the vaccination. Also, the Lepto vaccination only lasts for approx 3 months so where is your dog's 'cover' for the remainder of the year before his next annual vaccination. Leptospirosis is quite rare in this Country and is relatively easy to treat if treated quickly. I have seen one case when working at the vets which were treated by the holistic vet with homeopathy.

I personally do not vaccinate (my dogs have had their puppy vaccines and an annual booster. They are 9 and 7 years) annually anymore and any future dogs will not have any vaccines. I use nosodes (there's another story) and titer tests.Hope this helps to decide what is best for your dogs.
